Books I'm Reading:

1. The Psychic Soviet by Ian Svenonius

I don't really know too much about it. All the information I've read about it is Amazon reviews. I just bought it on a whim at the St. Mark's Bookshop the other day. It's kind of just a bunch of little essays. I guess you could say it's postmodern or something. I don't know. It's just essays on like the Cold War, rock n roll as commercialism, and Seinfeld.

2. Tristessa - Jack Kerouac

I just started this one today. I love Jack Kerouac and I realized it'd been awhile since I'd read anything by him and so I bought this one because it's real short and I don't have much time to read with working and school. It seems to be about one of his love affairs in Mexico basically. His style is pretty abstract at this point. It was written definitely after On the Road but before Big Sur.

5. number9dream - David Mitchell

I'm reading this one for class but I like it so far. I wish I wasn't having to read it at such a fast pace though. It reminds me of Murakami - he even refers to him in the book. Also this book by Banana Yoshimoto called Asleep is similar. All these Japanese and Japanese-influenced novels seem to have the same combination of mystery and mysticism. David Mitchell is English but resides in Hiroshima. His style is a somewhat Westernized version of this mystery and mysticism.

Yea. That's it really.

just so you know, i come here often and write out these really long comments but i never leave them because they're mostly retarded. but i decided that i should start leaving them because, well, who doesn't like feedback on their blog?

anyway, i was wondering where you get suggestions for books or where you find good books to read in general?

This is the first time I've tried reading in forever! And the sad thing is I'll probably only finish the one for class.

But when I do read I really am always drawn back to Beat literature. Seriously it's just my favorite. I've also been longing for some Bukowski.

There's some cool bookstores in NYC (something I'll really miss) so sometimes I just go in them and write books down that look good. Most suggestions I get are just from other people.

And yes, feedback is great. That's really what blogs are for after all. I think the internet could be used to foster community rather than foster isolation but it's just up to the users.
